Technical : Using it: Cutting a SIM card

Cutting a sim card down to size

There are two sizes of sim card: a credit-card size, and a much smaller one. The only difference is the plastic holding the card. If you have a large card, and need a small one, it is possible to cut the plastic to make it fit a small size holder. Be careful, though. Make a mistake, and your sim card won't line up properly, so it won't work.

Almost all sim cards are the small size nowadays, so this is unlikely to be needed, but if you need to, here's how...

Sim cutting

Carefully follow these instructions...

Uncutting

The reverse of the process is trickier. If your sim came in a press-out holder, it won't fit back in tightly enough to be secure, and particularly in some old Motorola handsets it can come out and jam so that you can't get it out again without a great deal of difficulty. Either buy a proper sim converter, or make sure that you use strong adhesive tape to hold it in place.
